Better education starts with people

Discentis exists to bring teachers, ideas and organizations closer together. We build communities, learning experiences and educational projects around the people who make education happen every day.

Our story

We started from a gap.

There is no shortage of ideas about how education should change. The harder part is making those ideas useful in real classrooms and schools. Discentis was founded in 2022 to help close that gap.

We started with professional development for teachers. Then came projects, resources and, eventually, a community where teachers could keep learning from one another long after a course had ended.

Our Manifesto

What we believe

We wrote a Manifesto to explain what school means to us. We worked on it for months, through drafts and rewrites, bringing ideas together and trying to capture on a single page what we have been thinking, discussing and working on every day for years.

We chose to describe what school means to us today: what it is, what we would like it to become, and what drives us every day to keep making it better.

La nostra Scuola è…

A shared responsibility
A shared responsibility

We believe education is a shared responsibility, and we work to ensure that everything we do creates a positive, measurable impact on learning and on the wider education community. We approach change and innovation systemically, guided by continuous study and research: we explore pedagogy, compare different education systems and investigate new solutions to build products and services that are useful, meaningful and grounded in the real needs of schools.

An inclusive community
An inclusive community

We believe schools should be places where community is built: spaces for listening, exchange and recognition, able to foster collaboration, innovation and mutual support. Schools should provide answers, but above all help new questions emerge. That is why we support teaching that encourages reflection and dialogue, helping students become aware, critical and responsible citizens who can navigate complexity, express their views and value different ways of thinking.

A chance to experiment and make mistakes
A chance to experiment and make mistakes

We believe education should put students at the centre and give them rich, inclusive learning experiences that recognize individual differences. We support schools that are dynamic and open to experimentation, where every student can grow and where mistakes are recognized as part of learning. We want students to express themselves fully, be valued for the progress they make rather than results alone and, above all, be happy to learn.

Different kinds of knowledge connected
Different kinds of knowledge connected

We believe the world is wonderfully complex and that understanding it requires different perspectives. Instead of separating knowledge into rigid compartments, we favour multidisciplinary, flexible and participatory learning that helps teachers and students make connections, collaborate and approach problems from different angles. For us, every discipline has equal value and dignity, and each contributes to a richer, deeper and more thoughtful understanding of the world.

A good investment
A good investment

We believe one of the best investments a school, and even a country, can make is in the professional development of its teachers. Over the course of a career, each teacher will meet thousands of students and may become an important reference point in many of their lives. That is why we want to provide high-quality, up-to-date learning for teachers, turning every resource invested in their growth into a benefit that can reach generations of students.

A place for fulfilled teachers
A place for fulfilled teachers

We believe teachers are key figures in education and in society. They are not only holders of knowledge, but essential guides in students’ learning and growth. We want to work with teachers who are proud of their role and happy to teach, able to listen to, understand and respond to their students’ needs. That is why we are committed to valuing the profession by providing tools, resources, support and opportunities for growth that help teachers do their work well.

An opportunity open to everyone
An opportunity open to everyone

We believe everyone, regardless of where they live or work, has the right to quality education: students, teachers and school staff alike. That is why we work mainly online, making our activities accessible beyond geographical boundaries. In this way, we can build learning communities where knowledge, experiences and solutions circulate more easily, helping teachers face common challenges together, experiment with new approaches and support one another.

A place without waste
A place without waste

We believe schools should manage the resources available to them, financial, material and educational, with competence, responsibility and care. With a long-term view, every project can become an investment in the quality of education and in the future of the school, rather than a short-lived expense. That is why we work to provide services that are genuinely useful and meaningful, so that every collaboration creates concrete, lasting value in proportion to the resources invested.

People

The people building Discentis, every day

An incredible staff works on Discentis every day: building the community, designing learning experiences, developing projects, creating content and trying to make all the pieces work together.

Over the years, educators, trainers, researchers, designers, facilitators and experts have taught with us, built resources with us, challenged our ideas and brought their own knowledge into the community. We call this wider group the DiscenTeam.

We are still building.

Discentis started in Italy, but the questions we care about are much bigger than one education system. How can teachers learn from one another more easily? How can good ideas travel without losing their context? How can organizations build for education without losing touch with the people inside it?

We do not have all the answers. That is precisely why we are building a place where more people can look for them together.
